Who Are the Shipibo?

Convivir-con-los-Shipibos-Konibos-en-Pucallpa.webp

The Shipibo are an indigenous people of Amazon Basin in Peru. They are internationally recognized for their deep connection to plants, their Kene art, and their sophisticated work with plant medicine and healing. Kene is a sacred, intricate system of geometric patterns traditionally painted or embroidered by women on textiles and ceramics. It represents the tribe's cosmology, mapping the spiritual energy, songs, and interconnectedness of the rainforest

At the heart of the Shipibo lineage are the Icaros — healing chants that transmit the vibrational energy of the plants. Icaros are believed to guide healing, protection, emotional release, and spiritual insight.

Meet Maestro Wiler

Wiler Noriega Rodriguez was formerly the lead Shaman at Pulse Tours before the retreat center changed ownership. Born in Yarinacocha near Pucallpa in the Amazon rainforest of eastern Peru, Wiler was raised in close connection with the traditions of Amazonian plant medicine.

Although one of his grandfathers was a respected shaman, Wiler did not initially imagine following the same path. Still, he felt deeply connected to the sacred icaros and the ancestral wisdom his grandfather shared with him. After a life-changing accident that left him with vision in only one eye, Wiler experienced a profound calling to the path of spiritual service. He then dedicated himself fully to the study and practice of traditional Amazonian medicine, committing his life to supporting the healing journeys of others.

To date, Wiler Noriega Rodriguez has completed dietas with approximately 50 different medicinal plants and trees. Within the Shipibo tradition, the practice of dieta — combined with periods of isolation, discipline, and deep communion with nature — is considered an essential path of spiritual development. Through these years of dedicated practice, Wiler has deepened his connection to the medicine, receiving visions, teachings, sacred icaros, and further awakening his gifts as a Shaman.

About the Retreat

The vision of Finca Shambhala was birthed during a plant medicine ceremony in Peru with Shaman Wiler Noriega from the Shipibo lineage of the Amazon Basin in Peru. Now, more than 7 years later we are more than honored to welcome him to this space and share the wisdom and powerful healing Icaros of Maestro Whiler. For us, this retreat is a full circle moment; his ceremony changed the course of our lives and we are certain you will leave this retreat the same way we left his ceremonies in Peru; purposeful, full of clarity, direction, insight and guidance.

This is not just another plant ceremony retreat. This is a profound healing experience for body, mind and soul. Guided by one of the most powerful Shipibo maestros, participants will experience the transformative medicine of the Amazon through sacred ceremonies accompanied by deeply healing Icaros, the traditional Shipibo healing songs that carry the vibrational wisdom and energy of the plants.

This retreat is designed not only for ceremony, but for true restoration through nature and the elements themselves. Every aspect of the experience has been carefully curated with love, intention, and reverence. Surrounded by pristine jungle, cascading waterfalls, and abundant wildlife, the sanctuary offers a peaceful environment that inspires reflection, creativity, and transformation.

About the Space

Finca Shambhala is an off-grid permaculture farm and healing sanctuary located in the South Pacific region of Costa Rica. Nestled within the lush Diamante Valley, the sanctuary rests between the Diamante River and a vibrant jungle reserve, offering breathtaking views of the Diamante Waterfall ; one of the tallest waterfalls in the country!

The farm cultivates an abundance of tropical fruits, fresh greens, coffee, as well as fresh dairy, cheese, and eggs, all produced in harmony with the land and the rhythms of nature.

The yoga shala, where ceremonies will take place, is a spacious open-air sanctuary overlooking the jungle, river, and waterfall. Surrounded by the sounds of nature and the vibrant energy of the forest, the space offers a powerful setting for ceremony, reflection, movement, and deep inner work.
